- » NEWCASTLE BEACH PARK, BELLEVUE, WA
- Newcastle Beach Park is a 27 acre waterfront parcel on Lake Washington with 1,500 feet of shoreline plus Lake Washington Bike Path. John Barker was the project manager for the park as well as the designer for the interpretive trail system, signage, and Lake Washington multi purpose bike trail. Barker Landscape Architects teamed with Jones and Jones Architects. A master plan was developed to preserve sensitive areas including 1,000 feet of natural shoreline, most of the significant trees (including an eagles roost) and 20 acres of wildlife habitat. The park development was concentrated in 7 acres: a sandy beach, several award winning buildings, an interpretive trail with signage, a children’s play area and open lawn. John Barker acted as Project Manager, designed interpretive signage, trails, bulkheads, a children’s play area, and other park features. Bill Way, with the Watershed Company served as the wetland biologist/fisheries consultant and were responsible for the stream and pond which replaced the roadside ditch through the park.
