LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN + PLANNING
- » PHINNEY NEIGHBORHOOD PLAY AREA, SEATTLE, WA
- Phinney Neighborhood Playground is located at the northwest corner of Seattle’s Woodland Park. Using a very interactive design process with three different workshops where about 100 citizens attended, and several refinement sessions with the Steering Committee, several alternatives were generated which were presented to the Seattle Parks Department and the community for review, and eventual approval. Phinney & 59th Street Park offers a multitude a play elements for a variety of users. Respecting the original Olmsted nature of the park, gardens, a boulder cave, play structures, swings, a wind sculpture, and half court basketball provide the various play opportunities which are nestled among gardens and a wide open green. It has enhanced the neighborhood greatly and was voted Favorite Improved Park by Seattle Residents who participated in Neighborhood Matching Funds through Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods.
